Photon Production of Axionic Cold Dark Matter
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using the non-equilibrium quantum field theory, photon production from the coherently oscillating axion field in a flat Robertson-Walker cosmology is re-examined. First neglecting the Debye screening of the baryon plasma to photons , we find that the axions will dissipate into photons via spinodal instability in addition to parametric resonance. As a result of the pseudoscalar nature of the axion-photon coupling , we observe a circular polarization asymmetry in the produced photons. However, these effects are suppressed to an insignificant level in the expanding universe. We then briefly discuss a systematic way of including the plasma effect which can further suppress the photon production. We note that the formalism of the problem can be applied to any pseudo-scalar field coupled to photon in a thermal background in a general curved spacetime. PACS number(s): 14.80.Mz, 95.35.+d, 98.80. Ultra Light Axionic Dark Matter: Galactic Halos and Implications for Observations with Pulsar Timing Arrays
The cold dark matter (CDM) paradigm successfully explains the cosmic structure over an enormous span of redshifts. However, it fails when probing the innermost regions of dark matter halos and the properties of the Milky Way’s dwarf galaxy satellites. Moreover, the lack of experimental detection of Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) favors alternative candidates such as light axionic da...
متن کاملExtracting Hidden-Photon Dark Matter From an LC-Circuit
We point out that a cold dark matter condensate made of gauge bosons from an extra hidden U(1) sector dubbed hiddenphotons can create a small, oscillating electric density current. Thus, they could also be searched for in the recently proposed LC-circuit setup conceived for axion cold dark matter search by Sikivie, Sullivan and Tanner. We estimate the sensitivity of this setup for hidden-photon...
متن کاملOn the Lifetime of a Cold Dark Matter Particle and the Cosmological Diffuse Photon Background
We show that a Majorana heavy neutrino with a mass O(100 TeV) is a good candidate particle for cold dark matter. It can be responsible for the majority of the cosmological diffuse photon background owing to lifetime of the order of O(1025s), dominantly fixed by the radiative two-body decay. The lifetime is suppressed by two mechanisms: the leptonic GIM cancellation and the see-saw weak coupling...
متن کاملSearch for nonvirialized axionic dark matter
Cold dark matter in the Milky Way halo may have structure defined by flows with low velocity dispersion. The Axion Dark Matter eXperiment high resolution channel is especially sensitive to axions in such low velocity dispersion flows. Results from a combined power spectra analysis of the high resolution channel axion search are presented along with a discussion of the assumptions underlying suc...
متن کاملPossible resonance effect of axionic dark matter in S/N/S Josephson junctions
We provide theoretical arguments that dark matter axions from the galactic halo that pass through the earth may generate a small observable signal in resonant S/N/S Josephson junctions. The corresponding interaction process is based on uniqueness of the gauge-invariant axion Josephson phase angle modulo 2π and is predicted to produce a small Shapiro step-like feature without externally applied ...
